Import must use definitivly an universal way : image metadata => XMP.

And this is not valid only for iphoto, but for all photomanagement program. It
will be a waste of time to implement an import tool for all program...

Interoperability goal have been written in this paper :

So, as 0.10.0 support indeep XMP, this solve your problem ?
