At the end: o not all popular image viewers or all OS honour EXIF orientation o it's very confusing for 'newbie' users when image is once roated once not. o Play save and rotate contents Please add a wishlist (if it does not exists) about a mode where digikam consitently uses/modifies exif orientation instead of rotating the images. I'll add my vote. Achim _______________________________________________ Digikam-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-devel |

My new camera stores a thumbnail as taken orientation. My new camera can also save original RAW (NEF) at the same time as it stores high quality JPEGs. I could settle with the following: When first entering download dialog digikam starts a wizard that asks the user if (s)he wants convenience or uncompromised quality. convenience: autorotate images, create a new directory uncompromised: no autorotate, the camera file is unmodified. Then add a note about that individual selections can be made in the advanced settings. _______________________________________________ Digikam-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-devel |

You are the assignee for the bug, or are watching the assignee. http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117115 ------- Additional Comments From mwieser gmx de 2006-05-16 17:36 ------- About lossles vs. not lossless: Lossless rotation is lossless in a way that there is no recompression. But the resulting image looks (very!!) slightly different to a image rotated within an image viewer. Calculating the difference between both is *not* the right thing to do! You should rotate the auto-rotated image by 270 degrees (e.g. with jpegtran, which is lossless) and compare the result with the not-rotated version. There will be no difference. => Digikam's autorotation makes the image slightly different to the non-rotated (original) version but neither version is better (or worse) than the other. That's just an effect of the Jpeg color subsampling and things like that. So please do not remove this feature! _______________________________________________ Digikam-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-devel |

What Matthias pointed out (#22) is what I tried to say, that is, there is no information loss. The last wish of Roger (#20) comes down to UI changes if I understand correctly. There are too much different problems discussed here. _______________________________________________ Digikam-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-devel |

Read up a bit on jpegtran and noted that if the result is rotated back you get the same image again - I have verified this too. => this bug report is now INVALID (provided that digikam uses jpegtran routines for all operations), remaining is not even the wished UI modifications. Well maybe a tooltip explaining this... _______________________________________________ Digikam-devel mailing list [hidden email] https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/digikam-devel |
