http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=116252
Summary: failed to update db on nfs shares
           Product: digikam
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: Fedora RPMs
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: digikam-devel kde org
        ReportedBy: otto gefunden at

Version:           0.8.0-rc (using KDE KDE 3.4.3)
Installed from:    Fedora RPMs
OS:                Linux

Updated from digikam-0.7.4 to 0.8.0-rc using apt on Fedora Core 3 with kde 3.4.3.
After that, I got "Failed to update old Database to new Database format" and digikam exited when using an album path on a nfs-share. After moving the albums to a local hdd, everything worked fine. This is definitely not a rights-specific problem, I triple-checked this. Even after creating an empty folder on a nfs-share and setting this path in digicamrc, the error appeared. Strange...

There are various problems concerning nfs. We made a solution to place the database on another location with a special hack. So if you insist in using nfs, please consider using that hack. It can be found elsewhere in bko. It is beyond the scope of digiKam to fix these issues.

I experienced that problem as well when I placed the Digikam database on a volume mounted via NFS version 3. The problem did no longer exist when I switched to NFS version 4 although it is not much fun even with 100 MBit/s. Using it over 54 MBit/s WLAN is not really an option.

I have spent quite time searching for the aforementioned 'hack' (just short of the time required to rehack it myself I would guess!) and can't locate it so if anyone has a reference to it I would be greatful !
