Browsing Videos plays sound, but no picture

In DigiKam 0.9.1 on Fedora Core 6, I cannot see the videos downloaded
from my camera (Fuji 5500). The thumbnails display fine, but when we
open the video we get sound only, no picture. The videos are in format
avi.

What happens, if you try mplayer/gmplayer etc. directly
on the video?
(Not sure which video player is actually used by digikam?)

The mplayer-based players work fine, that's what I always use. So does VLC.

I can confirm this: double clicking does not work. But Dotan: you can via
right mouse click chose the program you like to open the avi with vlc,
mplayer, noatun xine whatever you like. (works fine for me and is enough)

Of course an option for chosing the standard movie player would be nice... But
however right click works...

I would suspect, that it is not a digikam problem, but
more a KDE one.
Isn't the programm which is connected with AVI's defined
on the KDE level?

kcontrol:KDE Components: File Associations:video
There you should be able to make mplayer your first choice.

Do you have the same problem, if you try to watch the film from konquerer?

That's one of the first things that I do when I reinstall.

No, mPlayer works fine from konqi.

The suggestion to simply right-click the video and to choose a
different program is impractical for two reasons:
1) Digikam is used by the wife and the mother in law. If this needs
explanation, then no explanation will do.
2) We often fall on the videos when browsing the picture view, not the
thumbnail view. So, whoop, there it is, nobody expected that the next
file would be video.

Here, I bugzilla'ed a solution (for me at least), to simpy keep the
videos in a separate folder:

Sorry, I must have missed that!
So you are saying, that the problem is that
it does not respect the file association?
Please clarify.
In particular:
- does the right-click, open with mplayer work from within digikam?
- Does it work from within konquerer (see my previous question?)

More pieces of the puzzle seem to be needed ...

Something is wrong in your computer. digiKam use a KDE service to show video, witch use the mplayer shared library, not the mplayer program directly.

Also, are you installed all video codec ? especially all Win32 codec ?

Yes, it's all installed. Fact is that mplayer works when called seperately.
