Baloo tags

AndriusWild
Hello,

Did Baloo tags disappear from settings in 5.6.0 ? I seem to not be able to find them anymore.
What is their purpose anyways? I am on KDE so I turned them on a while ago but they seem to be doing nothing other than creating duplicates (now I have each tag in Tags Tree and same tag in Baloo Tags)
Any thoughts ?

Hi,

Baloo support is optional at compilation time. For AppImage this
option is not enabled because this make digiKam fully instable. This
is not the fault to digiKam code which is very small here, but the
Baloo component which is completely unsuitable since a very long time.
Al ot of reports have been written in bugzilla since KDE4 version on
digiKam and all move to Baloo team which have closed all files as
unmainted/unsupported or something like that.

The plan if this situation do not move on the right way is to drop
Baloo support in the future. We have no time to lost with kind of
component which make the application completely broken for user side.

Best

Gilles

Thank you for the update.

Baloo tags sounded like a good idea but it feels like it did not really work. Am I correct ?

Re: Baloo tags

Gilles Caulier-4
yes.

to be honest i never used this feature, and i'm very reluctant to have
a too much intrusive technology in digiKam which introduce
dysfunction, where typically, it must work as expected. Baloo is one,
developed and maintained by one guy. Also, it's a KDE./Linux only
solution...

This is why i always refused to use a KDE way to store the digiKam
database, as Nepomuk or Akonadi
