Auto-rotation, or not?

Chris Green
I have a Panasonic Lumix TZ60 camera, currently mostly still at the
default settings.

Pictures taken in portrait mode don't get auto-rotated when imported
into Digikam. In addition there's an even messier/worse problem, when
I rotate anti-clockwise to correct them they get rotated by 180
degrees instead of 90 degrees and I then have to rotate them back
again to get the correct orientation.

Is there a way to configure things so it all works correctly?  I want
the pictures to be correctly orientated when stored by Digikam so that
when exported to other places they will be correct.

I can manipulate things at import time because I do it using a Python
script I wrote myself.

Hi Chris,

same problem here with digiKam 4.4.0 (debian jessie). Including the issue with
manual rotation.

As a workaround:
I disabled auto-rotation at import. After importing all photos, I select every
photo in the current album (CTRL + A) and click in the main menu: "Image -> Auto
Rotate/Flip Using Exif Information"
This works correctly for me.

Regards,

Which version of digiKam you use? With the current version, I can reproduce no
mistake with a sample image from the Web.

But if I import several hundred images I don't want to have to go
through them all manually checking them, that's what computers are
for!

After some hassle I've added the required rotation to my Python import
program so that everything is correctly orientated (automatically)
before it gets to Digikam.

chris@esprimo$ digikam --version
Qt: 4.8.6
KDE Development Platform: 4.14.6
digiKam: 4.7.0
chris@esprimo$

I'm importing images as created by the camera with a mix of 1, 6 and 8
orientation values in the exif orientation tag.

I can probably supply some as examples if needed.

Yes, a few sample pictures would be good.

OK, it'll take a few days because I'm in France at the moment on the
end of a very slow internet connection.  It will have to wait until I
get home in a week's time.
