A few questions from a newbie ...

tosca
I've been trying to find my way around Digikam (version provided by
Ubuntu) for the past few days, and have a couple of questions:

1) I have no mouse and always use a tablet on my computer; with no
scrolling wheel, I don't know how to zoom in/out in order to use the
geolocation capabilities. I tried to access the marble project site at
http://www.edu.kde.org/marble/ but it seems to be unavailable, so I'd
welcome any advice on the matter.

2) I began to play with the rating system, but once I've rated a
picture, I cannot set it back to 0-star! Is there a trick I should
know?

3) Regarding the sorting options (by date, name, etc.) I didn't see
any choice between ascending/descending order; am I missing something?

Thanks for helping.

Re: A few questions from a newbie ...

Ricardo Amézquita
Hi Marie

I can help you with your second question. To erase the rating (set it to zero), what I do is first set it to one, and then do a click over the marked star (blue star in my case) to erase it.

Are you talking about the "Map Searches" tab on the left and the
"Geolocation" tab on the right? There should be zoom in/out buttons
below the map there, looking like a magnifying glass with "+" and "-" in
them.

Set the rating to 1 star, and then click the star again -> all stars
should be blank. Or right-click->"Assign rating"->"None"

Hm, I don't know either ...

Hope that helps,

Below the map, there is only a kind of scale (0 km - 6600 or 4400),
but no magnifying glass nor plus/minus sign ...

Not so intuitive ... especially as it works with the right-click on
the keyboard, and not with the right-click button of my tablet stylus!
But it worked.

So, how can I display the more recent photographs of an album at the
beginning? Without the reverse order, I have to scroll all the way
down to the end of the album.

Yes, but only in 1.0.0-beta5, not before... (:=))))

That explains it! But clicking with the middle mouse button on the map
and moving it also changes the zoom... but I guess a stylus does not
have one...

... but "+" and "-" keys also work (they work in plain Marble as well,
so I think this is not a Digikam specific feature). Just make sure the
focus is on the Marble widget (left click it once to be sure).

Wow, 4 ways to change the zoom...

I was afraid this kind of answer would appear some time ... and I am
too much of a newbie to try to install an unpacked version!
Do you expect to release the new version quite soon? (hope the
question is not unappropriate, I'm not well aware of the GNU/Linux
world usages).

Well, not yet sorry (:=)))... beta5 will be released soon sure, but
it's not yet stable as well. We will switch in Bug killing mode to
cleanup 1.0.0 release. And it still a lots of problem to solve...

Look in digikam.org release plan page for details.

Re: A few questions from a newbie ...

Guess I'd better to wait for the new release. The photographs will
have to wait for a few weeks; in the mean time, I'll try to work a bit
more with Ubuntu/Gimp/reflex camera (brand new, too), there is a lot
to learn besides Digikam ;)
Till then.

You can also use Ctrl-0 shortcut.

Very good: that's the solution I'll remember, especially as it works
from 0 to 5.
Thanks a lot.
