0.10.0 slow to open

Bugzilla from opersonlig_postadress@hotmail.com
Hello!

My problem is that digikam 0.10.0 is very slow to open. It starts to read database ok but when it loads kipi-plugins it is painstakingly slow. I have to whait for aproximately 3h (!) for it to open all plugins. The computer is not very fast, ASUS X59, 3 GB RAM, Intel T-3200 processor, but not to slow either.
I have used the search for duplicates function and it found a lot of duplicates. Out of aprox 250 000 pictures 10 000 are duplicates.
Mabye this is normal considering the amount of pictures?

TIA
D.L.

No, unfortunately not that simple. I do not use a network, direct acces to internet via 3G.
The files are on an external HD, seagate 1 TB, USB conection.
I use Ubuntu 9.04 and have tried different kernels, 2.6.28, .29, .30, but no differens.

Bugzilla from opersonlig_postadress@hotmail.com
The FS is EXT4. The external drive doesent work as muchs as the internal sATA, also EXT4 FS. The energy saving system on the external actually stops the drive from spinning.
I have  testet if the drives are slow but I get sustaind transfer rates of 20 -30 MB/sec when copying, regardles of direction (read internal - write external or the oposit). I do not consider this very slow.

Re: 0.10.0 slow to open

Bugzilla from andi.clemens@gmx.net
The only thing I discovered with EXT4 and sqlite databases is that transaction
writing is very slow.
So digiKam should start normal, but writing metadata or moving files inside of
digiKam is 4times slower then with other filesystems.
This is due to the use of barriers in EXT4.
I disabled them in /etc/fstab (barrier=0) and digiKam is fast as before.

Maybe this will help in your case, too?

Re: 0.10.0 slow to open

Bugzilla from opersonlig_postadress@hotmail.com
I have not noticed thath writing data is slow but it might be relatet to slow moving of data inside digiKam.
I will try  the disabled barriers after I have made a backup of my dokuments/db-files.
